Print Story
People sometimes ask me where the idea for a print comes from.
I wish I had a better answer. Most of the time, I have absolutely no idea. These things just come to me.
This time, it was feathers.
I loved their lightness and movement, and I wanted the colors to feel just as soft. So I chose pale greens and blues on a white background.
Up close, you see all the beautiful detail in the feathers—the fine lines, the curves, the movement.
But step back and something interesting happens.
The feathers almost disappear. What you see instead is this beautiful, soft mix of blue, green and white.
I love that.
The whole print feels light, feminine and graceful to me. There’s movement in it, but it also feels calm.
And maybe that’s why feathers came to me in the first place.
That’s how I want to feel at home. Comfortable. Beautiful. Feminine. And somehow, just a little lighter.
I can't tell you what kind of bird these feathers came from. I'm not even sure they come from a real bird!
But I know exactly how they make me feel.
And for me, that's usually where a print begins.
Big hugs,
Heidi
